Hospitals have shown large improvements in standardization of brain death assessments since 2010 criteria were published

According to a study published recently in the journal JAMA Neurology, not every hospital has adopted the new guidelines for hospitals determining brain death. The study was led by Yale University neurologist David Greer.

The American Academy of Neurology issued updated guidelines for hospitals for determining brain death in 2010.
