A Russian Jew fatally shot in Brooklyn

A 29-year-old man was shot to death on Tuesday morning in the Midwood area of Brooklyn, New York, police sources revealed.

The victim was identified as a Russian Jew named Natik Nisimov. Sources said he was shot twice in the chest in front of 1663 Ocean Parkway at around 7 a. m. yesterday.

Nisimov was rushed to Coney Island Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead. Police found a bullet shell casing at the scene of the fatal attack, though the firearm used in the incident was not found there, which incides that the killer fled the scene with the weapon.

A person familiar with the victim himself was a criminal. Speaking on the condition of anonymity, the person said, "He's a bad guy. He's got bad friends."

Police records show that Nisimov had been taken into custody eight times, most recently for committing a robbery in 2014. In 2012, he was shot in the leg but declined to cooperate with police.

A couple of day earlier, the Jewish community of Brooklyn reeled from another tragedy, in which seven young children of the Jewish Sassoon family were killed in a house fire.

Police investigators are trying to determine whether the motive was simply criminal or whether it was a hate crime.
