A notice of intent has been filed by the Center for Biological Diversity to take legal action against the federal government over a delay in taking decision to protect the foothill yellow-legged frog. The conservationists had filed an appeal with the US Fish and Wildlife Service to cover this species of frog under the Endangered Species Act.

A joint study by NASA and the National Science Foundation has stated that global lakes are experiencing rapid increase in temperatures owing to climatic changes. An average increase in the temperature in each decade has been calculated at 0.61 degrees Fahrenheit, according to the study. Eventually, the algae blooms are likely to worsen with the rising temperatures.

The red alert over high pollution has been withdrawn by the Beijing government, even though a cloud of dangerous mist exists over Beijing for the fifth consecutive day. The government has lifted the warning as it expects the smog to alleviate during the latter half of December 23. Currently, the city continues to experience further increase in smog during the day.
